MATERIALS: Rocket to be made of lightweight materials such as paper, wood, rubber and
plastics
suitable for the power used and the performance of my model rocket.
No metals for the nosecone, body tubes or fins.
MOTORS: Only commercially made , certified model rocket
motors in the manner recommended
by the manufacturer. No modification of the rocket motor is permitted.
RECOVERY: A suitable recovery system is to be used that will return my model rocket to the
ground Only flame resistant bio-degradable recovery wadding is permitted. WEIGHT AND POWER LIMITS: My rocket will weigh no more than 1,500 grams at lift off and
its rocket motors produce less than 320 newton seconds of total impulse. STABILITY: Rockets must be checked for stability.
PAYLOADS: No live animals. Nothing flammable, explosives or harmful.
CIVIL AVIATION: Model rockets do not require notification and Large Model Rockets only
require notification if they are flying into controlled
airspace.
SUMMARY OF HIGH POWER ROCKET SAFETY CODE.
APPLIES TO ROCKETS OVER 1.5 KG OR 320 NEWTON SECONDS (I)
MATERIALS: Rocket to be made of materials suitable to the performance of the rocket.
MOTORS: Only commercially made , certified model rocket
motors in the manner recommended
by the
manufacturer. No modification of the rocket motor is permitted. RECOVERY: A suitable recovery system is to be used that will return my model rocket
to the ground. Only flame resistant bio-degradable recovery wadding is permitted. WEIGHT AND POWER LIMITS: Rockets will not weigh more than the maximum
recommended
by the manufacturer for the motor used. Motors will
produce no more
than 40,960
newton seconds of
total impulse (O)
STABILITY: Rocket must be checked for stability.
PAYLOADS:
No live animals. Nothing flammable, explosives or harmful.
CIVIL AVIATION: High Power Rockets must be notified via a NOTAM. Rockets flying
into controlled airspace must have airways approval prior to launch.
SUMMARY OF EXPERIMENTAL ROCKET SAFETY CODE
APPLIES TO ROCKETS WITH NON CERTIFIED MOTORS.
MATERIALS:Rocket to be made of materials suitable to the performance of the rocket.
MOTORS: Only solid composite and "hybrid" motors are to be used.Liquid and Black Powder
are
excluded.
RECOVERY: A
suitable recovery system is to be used that will return my model rocket
to the
ground. Only flame resistant bio-degradable recovery wadding is permitted.
WEIGHT AND POWER LIMITS:
Rocket weight is unrestricted, but it must be demonstrated that
the thrust to weight ratio will produce a safe and stable launch. Motors will
produce
no more than 40,960 newton seconds of total impulse (O)
STABILITY: Rocket must be checked for stability.
PAYLOADS: No live animals. Nothing flammable, explosives or harmful.
CIVIL AVIATION: Experimental Rockets must be notified via NOTAM. Rockets flying into
controlled airspace must have Airways approval prior to launch.
AIRWAYS NOTIFICATION
Controlled Airspace: In Taupiri starts at 9,500 feet when 'Danger Area' is 'Activated'.
Estimated altitudes must be no more than 75% of heights notified to CAA.
